Tenji Japanese Buffet @ Solaris Mon't Kiara

Huge huge dissapointment... :( Read on below...

Location: Lot L-01-01, SohoKL, Solaris Mont’ Kiara, 2 Jalan Solaris, 5o480 Kuala Lumpur

Weekdays:
Lunch 11.30 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. RM77++
Dinner 5.30 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. RM88++
Supper 10.00 p.m. - 2.30 a.m. RM88++

Weekend & Public Holiday:
Lunch 11.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. RM77++
Dinner 5.30 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. RM88++
Supper 10.00 p.m. - 2.30 a.m. RM88++

It was Father’s Day 2 weeks ago and we brought daddy for a special treat at Tenji Japanese Buffet; along with our relatives too. Hence it was a big group that night and we had a long table for 18 people.

Japanese Buffets seemed to be popping around like mushrooms in town. Friends and family love buffets; typically enjoying moments with endless good food and drinks. I’ve tried most of them – Shogun at 1 Utama, Saisaki at Wisma UOA, Yaki Yaki at Federal Bowl, Jogoya at Starhill, Kampachi @ Equatorial Hotel and the latest was Tenji at Solaris Mont Kiara.

First of all, the food was a huge disappointment. I’ve heard so many good reviews of Tenji but only to be thrown into displeasure with the quality of the food. Having to pay RM 88 ++ for a Japanese buffet like this? They got to be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!

Nevertheless here are my 2 cents of the restaurant:
  1. Ambience was great with huge dining areas indoor and outdoor; overlooking the view of Mont Kiara.
  2. Even their basic food like sushi was simply a disaster of all time. No doubt the sashimi was fresh but the sushi was terrible. The rice rolls were so hard I reckon it was either overcooked or not cooked at all. We just ate the sashimi toppings and left the rice on the plate.
  3. The offerings and varieties at Tenji are limited compared to Jogoya for the price you’re paying. We had so many clips with us; only to return to the table not knowing what to order. Can you believe that?
  4. I simply couldn’t understand why the food served here can be so cold. Can you believe their superior boiled soup is not even hot? So disappointed.
  5. Steamed fish was simply hopeless too. Jogoya is definitely a better option. Yes they have cod fish and such; but it tasted bland and the serving was soooo small. SAD!
  6. I reckon their best bet would be the Western Food section. They have grilled lamb, chicken and fish. But the pasta that night was simply hopeless. I can cook better pastas for sure
  7. You can also forget about the desserts. The cakes seemed like they were there for ages waiting to be eaten. It didn’t look appetizing at all. The best was perhaps the Haagen Diaz ice cream.

I guessed it would be my first and last visit ever again. To pay a full price for an experience like this? Nope I would never again unless they start changing the quality of the food!

The entrance at Solaris! The ambience is good...

Uncle Jit's 25th Birthday Bash @ Kissaten!

Location: Kissaten Coffee & Restaurant, L12A-1-1, Palm Square JAYA ONE, Jalan Universiti, Petaling Jaya
Phone Number: 03 7954 1990
Business Hours: 11am - 11pm daily

Most of my friends are turning or have turned 25 years old this year. GOSH that’s old, it’s like passing the mark of mid life crisis and before realizing you’ll be 30 five years down the road. I know time flies and you just have to sit back relax and enjoy life to the fullest. I have yet to accomplish so many things in life I want to do or to become; hopefully all will turn out alright! :)

Anyway it was Uncle Jit’s 25th birthday bash; hence we headed to his choice of restaurant called Kissaten on the 6th of June at 6pm for the celebration. This café serves not only Japanese cuisines but also fusion of food like pizza, pastas, salads, sandwiches and desserts!

This is also a one stop place for coffee lovers who are addicted to caffeine. You’ll be spoilt with choices and pleased to know that Kissaten serves illy Coffee.

Overall food was ok but the Japanese cuisines were nothing to shout about. Perhaps it’s a good place to chill out with some friends sipping your coffee and chatting away. If you’re searching for authentic Japanese food, you should try out Rakuzen at Plaza Damas or Kura Kura Japanese restaurant at One Utama hotel instead.

The ramen set came with the gyoza; dumplings. I didn't enjoy the gyoza at all; I have no idea why but somehow the crust was just a tad bit hard and didn't quite bring out the juiciness of the dumplings...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I heard the grilled salmon was quite good... the set came with rice, generous serving of salad, soup and cawamushi...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The salted pork belly spaghetti topped with seaweeds... weeeeee...........

The burger patty served on hot place and drenched in thick brown gravy... I heard this was quite good too... side dishes are corn, tomatoes, carrots and brocolli! :)

Entertaintment News: Michael Jackson dead at 50

Source: Associated Press

U.S. pop star Michael Jackson has been rushed to a Los Angeles-area by fire department paramedics, the Los Angeles Times reported on June 25, 2009. The newspaper said paramedics went to the singer's home and found he was not breathing.

Michael Jackson, the record-breaking, sensationally gifted “King of Pop” who emerged from childhood superstardom to become the entertainment world’s most influential singer and dancer, and the tabloid world’s most disturbing celebrity, has died. He was 50.

A person with knowledge of the situation says Jackson died Thursday in a Los Angeles hospital. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

His death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music’s premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

OMG what happened this time? Was it drug overdose or something? No one has confirmed anything officially...

May you rest in peace...

What's Cooking in the Kitchen?

Cooking at home can be fun and fulfilling. :)

At times we seriously ran out of idea where and what to eat, hence cooking a simple meal at home is as simple as 1 2 3!

I reckon the preparation is the part that requires most of the time and after that the cleaning process too! But cooking is like a hobby; it helps you relax and at the same time enjoy the process of experimenting in the kitchen.

Here are some simple recipes during the weekdays to fix up something quick and dirty for dinner. Enjoy!

Dearie's kitchen... with stove and attached oven.. perfect for baking options! :)

The dinner on the table... We had braised pork with egg, tau foo with minched pork and stir fry french beans with brinjals! *SLURRPP* The dinner turned out fine and yummy indeed! :)

Ingredients:
  • Ample serving of Pork Belly
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • Soy sauce
  • Oyster sauce
  • Little dark soya sauce
  • Dash of pepper
  • Five spice powder
  • Hard boiled Egg

Homemade Seafood Spaghetti with Meatballs in Red Wine Sauce!

Last weekend, bestie had a small gathering at her home in Cheras and made us her specialty Red Wine Sauce Spaghetti with seafood and meatballs.

Preparing this dish was not hard at all and in fact I decided to watch and steal her recipe. :P

You’ll need the following ingredients:
  • Chopped onions and garlic
  • Brinjals
  • Portabella Mushrooms
  • Fresh tiger prawns (peeled)
  • Meatballs
  • 2 cans of tomato puree
  • 1 bottle of chili sauce
  • Red wine
  • Butter
  • Philadelphia cheese

Preparation is as easy as 1 2 3! :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Chopped the onions and garlic as required. The more the better!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Fresh tiger prawns. Peeled and washed clean!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Brinjals! Cut and washed!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Portabella Mushrooms. You can get these at any supermarket...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

First step would be stir frying the onions and garlic until golden brown and then add in the meatballs! Fry a little while before putting in the mushrooms and brinjals!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Add in the tomato puree, chili sauce, some red wine, cheese, butter and some water... Add salt as required depending on your taste... Add the prawns last to avoid over cooking...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Chef in action... hehehe!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tada a nicely cooked lunch in a short time... Indeed it was delicious! I've always loved tomato based spaghetti! Craving for some? Wait no more, try your very own recipe today! :)

New Beggar's Delicious Restaurant @ Ijok

Location: New Beggar's Delicious Restaurant, Ijok, Selangor
Tel: 03 - 3279 1936, 019 - 317 3687 (Mr. Tee)
Business hours: Open only from 5 p.m., Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.

Never would I imagine having to travel 2 hours back and forth for dinner. Would you mind driving all the way to the land of nowhere just to taste the delicious cuisines that awaits you at the other side of the far away land?

Daddy came upon an article online about the famous and best in town claimed beggar chicken found only at the New Beggar’s Delicious Restaurant at Ijok near Kuala Selangor. So one fine weekend, we decided to head down the town at Ijok to give it a try.

Hence it was a good drive anticipating the food that awaits us and after dinner we dreaded the journey home as it seems forever. LOL!

Tips:
  1. Please remember to make a reservation before going so you could secure a table and place your booking in advance you for the famous beggar chicken.
  2. A recommendation would definitely be going in a group of 6 – 8 pax so you could share with more varieties of food on the table. You want the full experience of everything they have to offer! Unless you have 2 people with a cow stomach that can never get full, then it’s fine. HAHA!
Arrived finally after an hour drive...

Here comes the star of the night!!! Most of the food here are served using the silver aluminium foil nicely wrapped and served on a plate; which you can then open and reveal a wholesome smell that awaits u!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Beggar Duck!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Beggar Chicken! I reckon the chicken was a better option than the duck. Both are equally good but somehow the sauce that came from the chicken was much sweeter and tastier too! :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Wooo the best combination to go with the chicken and duck would be the glutinous rice! The glutinous rice comes with sliced chinese mushrooms, dried shrimps and salted egg yolks all in one flavor that guarantees to satisfy your taste bud!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Aside from the must orders above, the common dish on every table would be the tiger prawns drenched in thick sweet sauce! The prawn was huge and fresh. Somehow this dish didn't quite ignite my interest but it was ok and I've eaten nicer prawn cuisines elsewhere!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Crabs for seafood lovers! The crabs cooked in kam heong style with curry leaves...

The leftovers... LOL! Look at the amount of herbal they used to cook the beggar chicken!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We LOVE Amber! :) Ok overall the food was ok but seafood wan't that special here... The beggar chicken and glutinous rice are a must try if you visit this restaurant at Ijok... if you're craving for seafood, I reckon heading to Port Klang or Kuala Selangor would be a better option :) Till then more FOOD soon...

Ichiban Boshi @ Pavilion Mall

Location: LG Floor, near the Food Court, Pavilion Shopping Mall
Cuisine type: Japanese
Contact number: 03 2141 6621
Business hours: Mon to Fri: 11.30am till 10pm, Sat to Sun : 11.00am to 10.00pm

I’ve always adore Japanese cuisines and I think I can serve on Sashimi every day knowing the fact that it’s healthy and oh so yummy! Well but Japanese food can be quite pricy to be consumed everyday here in Malaysia, so a treat once a while is good enough for me!

My first attempt of Ichiban Boshi was at Suntec City, Singapore. My wish finally came through when they opened a new franchise here at the Pavilion Shopping Mall in the hearts of Kuala Lumpur.

I reckon the prices are ok with the quality of the food you’re getting. Ichiban Boshi Japanese Restaurant offers a wide variety of freshly made sushi and their soba noodles are not to be missed too!

Ichiban Boshi is usually packed during the weekends with a long line of food goers waiting outside... Sushi served on a kaiten belt, alternatively you can also opt to place your ala carte orders...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Slurrpppp! Sushi and Sashimi menu!!! Best eaten with lots of Wasabi dipped in Shoyu sauce! sushi (寿司) is vinegar rice, usually topped with other ingredients, such as fish.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Must order! My all time favourite Salmon Sushi topped with melted cheese and roes! RM 5 per plate (Red color)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I can never get enough! LOL! :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Another type of sushi I usually order too! Tuna Seaweed Roll with mayonnaise! RM 3 per plate (Gold color)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Baby Octopus Sushi! Oh by the way a plate usually come with 2 pieces of sushi ... I was too excited munching away and suddenly remembered to snap a photo, hence only left one piece below! :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Dearie ordered the deep fried chicken nugget crepe sushi roll... Japanese restaurants are getting really competitive nowadays, don't you agree? The chef are coming out with all sort of new ideas in making sushi with different toppings...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Aside from Sushi, we ordered some mains to share too! The soba noodles served in hot broth soup! Soba is a type of thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour and are consumed widely in Japan!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I ordered the half portion Soba noodles.... You can opt for either Full or half...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Salmon Sashimi Bento (RM 19.90) ... We LOVE Salmon very much! :P A generous spread of fresh salmon, served with rice drenched in sesame sauce and topped with shredded chilis and spring onion... So NICEEEEEEEEEEE! :P

Do check out Ichiban Boshi @ Pavilion Mall.... Simply yummylicious! :P

Baba Low's 486 Restaurant @ Bangsar

Location: Jalan Kurau, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Searching for some local Baba Nyonya Food in town? Fred not, I’ve discovered a shop hidden on the land of Bangsar serving authentic Nyonya dishes at simply affordable prices; most important of all, the food was simply delicious.

I was introduced to Baba Low’s 486 at Lorong Kurau near Bangsar by a colleague after our meeting together. Never can I imagine that you can find a restaurant serving good food like these with a location hidden from the eyes of food goers.

Getting a car park can be totally pain in the ass as dedicated parking bays are usually full; hence you would need to park at the road side; eat and watch your car at the same time! :)

A simple looking cafe was set up with wooden tables and chairs; paintings of glorious FOOD hanged on the wall and a huge board offering their assorted cuisines!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Iced coffee!!!! I needed a nice cup of coffee to keep me going for the rest of the day! :P Not too sweet and just bitter enough for my liking! :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Ayam'O with rice (RM 4.50), you can opt for noodles too if you wish. A signature bowl of their rice drenched in soup and accompanied by shredded chicken, tu foo pok and egg! Something unique and recommeded by the waitress there! :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Mee Siam (RM 4)... Simple and oh so delicious! :) Comes with half an egg, more shredded egg, anchovies, garlic and fishcake! Awesome! :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

A closer shot to make u drooling for more... HAHA! :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We ordered a portion of Ayam Goreng Kunyit (RM 3) to share. I reckon the chicken would have tasted better if it was served pipping hot. Seems like they fried and left it for a while, hence the chicken was a bit hard... :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Bendeh Sambal Belancan (RM 2.50). Lady fingers topped with super spicy Sambal Belacan! If you're into spicy food, this signature dish is a must try! Perfect appetizer to start any meal :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Egg Skin Popiah (RM 3). A healthy option for people watching their diet! Ample of shredded turnip, bean sprout, egg and crushed peanuts all wrapped in one! OH! Simply Yum! :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Pai Tee (RM 4.50). The ingredients used are similar to popiah's; the difference is simply the crispy shell that comes with it! TOO MUCH FOOD for 2 people and after lunch time, I was dozing off and feeling sleepy the rest of the day... LOL! :P Ok Have a good Sunday, more next! :)

Taipei Fisherman Harbour (渔人码头) @ Danshui (淡水)

Tamsui Township (淡水, or Danshui, Danshuei) is a sea-side town in Taipei County, Taiwan. It is named after the Danshui River whose name means "Freshwater". The town is also popular as a site for viewing the sun setting into the Taiwan Strait.

We made a stop to pay a visit at the harbour on the last day. You can travel via the MRT which was utterly convenient and head towards the last station called Danshui or 淡水 stop.

The Danshui Town Centre with lots and lots of taxis waiting for customers. :P

A Trip to Confucious Temple @ Taipei...

Location: No 275 Dalong Street, Taipei 103, Taiwan

After a visit to the National Palace Museum, we decided it was a day to cherish History; so we headed over to the Confucious Temple at Dalong street next! :P

Sweeping eaves, an oval entrance and walls of brown brick, Confucius Temple is one of the most historic buildings in Taipei. Temples to Confucius are a concrete symbol of Chinese Confucian culture. The Confucius Temple was built way back in 1879 and was well preserved till this very day.

You can travel by MRT to the Confucious Temple by stopping at the Shihlin Station and walk about 10 minutes...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We finally arrived at the temple... The Pan Palace (East Gate) entrance at the front entrance with nice crafted dragons sitting elegantly on the walls...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

On the side walk, there were monkey statues so we stopped and took a couple of photos! HAHA!

Shida Night Market @ Taan District!

During the night we decided to head over to the famous Shida Night Market (traditional Chinese: 師大路夜市). The real action of the night market takes place in several side streets of Shida road. Usually packed with students and tourist alike since it's located near the National Taiwan University.

Food vendors sell dou hua, dumplings, Taiwanese sausages, fried chicken, noodles and many many more! Shida night market is accessible from the MRT Kuting stop!

We were dead thirsty after the confucious temple, so our first stop was iced shaved mango a.k.a "Mango Lo" at some dessert shop nearby! Sweet juicy mangoes on top with ice drenched with sweet milk beneath! :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

There was a long queue at this particular stall selling fresh steam pork buns!

A Visit to the National Palace Museum @ Taipei!

The National Palace Museum (國立故宮博物院) is an art museum in Taipei City, Taiwan. It is the national museum of the Republic of China, and has a permanent collection of over 650,000 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, making it one of the largest in the world.

The museum is located in the Waishuanghsi neighborhood of the Shihlin District and can be reached via public transport like the MRT with a stop at the Shihlin station and a cab drive.

Included in the collection are artifacts made from jade, bronze, porcelain, lacquerware and enamel. There is also tapestry and embroidery, and many priceless documents and books containing excellent examples of ancient Chinese calligraphy.

The museum has its own restaurant. On its fourth floor is the famous San Hsi Tang where you can enjoy coffee and tea while enjoying the great view!

Upon arrival we were starving and decided to explore the San Hsi Tang Chinese Restaurant serving authentic Chinese Dim Sums at high rocket prices at the museum... Nice ambience and decorations surrond the place...

No wonder you're paying a hefty price tag to the food! :P

Taipei Day 3 - Daan Park!

Location: Xin Sheng South Road, Section 1 Taipei 100, Taiwan

On day 3 before making our way to the National Palace museum which will be up in the next post, we decided to take a stroll at Daan Park near Taipei City. In fact we woke up late that morning and missed the breakfast buffet session.

As the largest park in Taipei City, Daan Park’s spacious environment makes it a rare city park. Daan Park has a variety of plant including bamboo forest, fragrant flowers, banyan trees, waterweeds, etc making it one of the most popular recreational areas in Taipei City.

Missed the hotel buffet breakfast, so we settled down at a nearby shop and had a simple breakfast to share.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This particular shop nearby Delight Hotel offers a variety of food from rice to noodles and even their homemade crepes!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tada! Egg Crepe wrapped with pork floss... Awesome! :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

A very healthy meal... egg crepe + Soy milk! :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

After the MRT ride, we walked till we reached our destination at Daan Park. It was almost late morning and the sun was up and glaring! :P

The Famous Raohe Night Market, Taipei!

As you may already know, there are endless night markets available in Taiwan and you'll be scratching your head deciding which one to visit. Below is a must stop for tourists and locals alike!

The Raohe Street Night Market (traditional Chinese: 饒河街觀光夜市) is one of the oldest night markets in Songshan District, Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. It is located on Raohe Street, near Songshan Station, and is about 600 meters long.

The night markets offers almost everything from local snacks to souvenir goods and you get to view the all time famous rainbow bridge just few meters away.

The entrance to the market... opened from late evening to midnight!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Reminds me of Chinatown?
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Mee Sua! Just took photo but didn't try though! The owner was starring at me and wanted to eat me up for taking the photo without buying. LOL! :P Take photo only cannot wan meh?
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Our first stop.. dearie was craving for his all time favourite "Yau Char Kwai" (油炸粿) a.k.a You Tiao!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This was different from the ones you get in M'sia! So much longer! HAHA! :P
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Then next we tried out their Taiwanese Bak Kut Teh! Bak kut teh (肉骨茶) is a Chinese soup with pork ribs popularly served in Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Dipped with chili sauce to amplify the taste! Simply GOOD! :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Us looking very happy with our FOOD! pose snap pose snap.. :P

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

WAH!!!!!!!! It was super packed! So we joined the crowd and waited a good 30 minutes before getting our hands on the bun!
